













Policy on Open Parties
WHEREAS
Theta Xi Fraternity advocates and encourages healthy and wholesome social
activities and social behavior for all its members, which should further The
Purpose of Theta Xi, and
WHEREAS
open parties, defined as those with unrestricted access by non-members of Theta
Xi without specific invitation, are seen to inhibit such healthy and wholesome
social behavior and constitute a general nuisance to the local fraternity
system, the institution of higher learning, and the community, and
WHEREAS
Theta Xi Fraternity believes:
- Open parties
expose chapters, house corporations, alumni associations, and the officers
and individual members of these Theta Xi groups, as well as the national
fraternity and the institutions of higher learning which host Thata Xi
Chapters and their respective officers and administrators, to serious legal
liabilities derived from the abuse of alcohol, the illegal consumption of
alcohol, the use of controlled substances, sexual misconduct, and other
activities which could bring about civil actions.
- Open parties
promote an undesirable image of fraternity life on campus and in the
community and are conductive to the impression that Theta Xi Fraternity
promotes an atmosphere and philosophy of irresponsible social behavior among
its members.
- Open parties
promote vandalism, theft, and damage to fraternity, individual, and
surrounding property, in addition to a variety of other undesirable
behaviors.
- Open parties
are conductive to disruptive noise, tremendous litter, uncontrollable
crowds, and frequently result in criminal behavior or demonstration, and
exhibit a general lack of concern for others.
THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED that Theta Xi Fraternity prohibits chapter sponsorship of and/or
participation in open parties, and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that Theta Xi Fraternity wholeheartedly encourages and recommends
that its chapters and members work together with their local campus men's and
women's fraternity chapters and their Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils
to seek the adoption of similar policies and Statements of Position.
